I want to give a shout out to Spokane and their excellent North Monroe Corridor Project and website. Rarely do you see this much attention to detail given to making the case for a public project. People not familiar with basic concepts of complete streets and traffic engineering can easily follow the rationale for the road diet and see its benefits with high quality renderings and video.
Complete streets isn’t just about getting the engineering right. The process, presentation, public engagement, and marketing materials all play a role in the project’s success. Putting a bit more time and effort into marketing and public presentation materials can turn the tide and help more communities see the benefits of remaking our streets.
